Language acquisition models

Language literacy is of great importance depending on different aspects including socio-cultural and political criteria. It is greatly discussed by modern scientists that determine the age of 3 as the age when a child has basic communicative competence in his first language.
Consequently, there are several types of language acquisition models in which acquisition takes the first place. The first subgroup is sequential acquisition that presupposes mastering a second language in the course of a long and lengthy process. It comes from the word "sequence" and correspondingly stand for long-lasting process of language mastering.
Another model is called "bilingual". The advantage is proficiency in both languages. To maintain the process, the teacher is supposed to have a good command in two languages.
In its turn, "coordinate" model insists on the equal time that must be spent for learning both languages. The native language digesting must be concentrated on the basic literacy while foreign language needs to be mastered on listening and speaking basis.
One of the outcomes of the modern linguistics made in the domain of language literacy is that now children are considered to acquire a second language within five years compared to one year as it was deemed before. Another interesting outcome concerns persons who know two or more languages. The point is that they perform academically in a much better way.
