Multilingualism in software

Software is mostly multilingual. Translating software is done in many languages as it enjoys wide popularity all around the world. Many versions are available in some languages when the most popular software programmes including office applications, web browser, etc are translated into hundreds of languages. The question is English is the most wide-spread language in the world and as a consequence almost all the programmes are created in English.
One of the spheres multilingualism finds itself in computing is Internet. Internet develops with great speed throughout the world displaying millions of sites and possibilities simultaneously. On the one hand, Internet is a great engine of progress but taking into account the fact that 80% of all computing is done in English, millions of people that are no good at English can't get access to it. In this aspect, Internet is absolutely discriminatory phenomenon that requires a lot of constant work.
The work oriented upon making Internet a multilingual phenomenon is greatly done by UNESCO. This organization formulated several approaches of tackling the challenges of internet diversity:
1. standardization of characterizations for achieving international consistency
2. description of factors necessary for elaborating state policies
3. collecting quality data on a regular basis
Still, learning English lets people receive access to a great source of information and possibilities to develop own outlook. So, studying Internet is a great challenge to work over oneself.
